More Info:

Ypsilanti Area Dancers is a non profit ballet company formed in 1968 and has become an extraordinary treasure for Southeastern Michigan dancers to be able to perform in professional quality ballet productions. Talented dancers from all over the area are accepted by auditions each fall. With only nine short weeks, these dancers show true dedication to the art of dance and exhibit their passion to put on an absolutely amazing production. YAD continues to deliver, year after year, excellent family entertainment for the community. In addition to ballet students, YAD incorporates community figures into their productions to provide a unique experience for the dancers and the audience. This year, Dedrick Martin, new Superintendent for Ypsilanti Public Schools, and Barry LaRue, President of Riverside Arts, are two that will be joining us for an unforgettable evening.
Commissioned by the Kirov Ballet, Cinderella was scored by the one of the great composers of the 20th Century, Sergei Prokofiev. Prokofiev began work on the ballet in 1940, but did not complete it until 1944. The ballet premiered in November, 1945 at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow. Cinderella is one of Prokofiev’s most celebrated and joyful compositions, featuring comical versions of the wicked stepsisters.

Under the Artistic Direction of Heidi Vitso and assisted by Roya Panahi, and Laura McCarthy, 62 dancers, ranging in age from 6 to 24, will grace the stage. Cinderella will be played by Sarah Morgan, 16, and the Fairy Godmother will be played by Beth Lloyd, 17. The YAD is thrilled to have with us special performer, Craig Miller, from Oakland University, playing the part of the Prince. The lovely stepsisters, Joseph Sammour and Scott Stevenson, promise to entertain!
