On Tuesday, March 5, Youth Owned Records, an Ann Arbor-based record label run by and for teens, is scheduled to release its first album of the 2012-2013 school year: a self-titled album by a group called Creal. Creal headlines at Neutral Zone’s B-Side Concert Hall (310 E. Washington St. in Ann Arbor) on most Saturdays, and its new album is a multi-genre mix of all original music.

A press release provided the following additional information:

Since Creal formed in 2010, they have been performing across Ann Arbor. As they’ve matured their music style has become stronger and more varied, beginning as a rock band but finding hip-hop and indie along the way. The band is made up of students from Ann Arbor’s Skyline High School and Ann Arbor’s Pioneer High School, forming a group of six guys who love writing, playing and performing music.

The musicians of Creal all have varying levels of musical training, but are incredibly strong artists as a group. A close-knit group of friends that have known each other since grade school, their sound consists of intricate drum beats, tender vocals, and melodious electric and bass guitar.

Nine original songs are showcased on this record, one devoted to the rapping skills of guitar player Josh Williams and the rest a sparkling combination of sounds ranging from 70s rock to indie pop. Creal’s sound exudes influence of rock group The Strokes, Swedish trio Peter, Bjorn and John, and a nod to the brash sound of Gorillaz. Each original composition featured on the record displays both stunning harmonies and a strong new sound. Their brand new album is a perfect capture of their young and astounding talent. You can catch Creal’s release party on March 9th at 7 p.m. at the B-Side concert hall, and the album is available for download on youthownedrecords.bandcamp.com starting March 5th.
