Vintage car show to feature the many variations of the Volkswagen

By Ann Dwyer

Volkswagens certainly have a style. The buses are practically a necessity in any movie about the 1960s. Jack Torrance and family drove one to the Overlook Hotel. Certainly, no other make of car could have made Herbie the Love Bug as adorable as he was.

Going into its 26th year, the Vintage Volkswagen Show at Ypsilanti's Riverside Park will celebrate all variations of the rear-engine Volkswagen, including originals, restorations, customs, race cars, drag cars, kit cars, dune buggies, trikes, ramrods and even daily beaters. All of the cars are 25 years or older.

A silent auction of Bob Case’s collectibles will benefit the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation in memory of Bob and Ellie Case, and a non-perishable food drive will benefit the SOS Community Services.

Sunday, May 19, 9 a.m. $5 for spectators. $12 to register a car. Riverside Park in Depot Town, 100 W. Cross St., Ypsilanti. Visit http://www.mvvc.net/eventpages/2013festival/festival.html for more information.
