Clague Middle School hosted Thursday’s premier of the show, which features an original script and lyrics. It is the 37th annual production by the Thurston Players.
The play continues tonight at 7:30 p.m. and again on Saturday at 7 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for children.
Producer Jeff Bonevich, who also plays a George Lucas parody, “George Mucas,” said the production is built from the ground up by local families.
“It’s always a lot of work, but there is always more pay back,” he said. “It’s really thrilling, and I get to be up there with my family!”
“Flopped” director Phil Zaret said he loves putting together an original play, and it’s something he’s been doing with the Thurston Players for nearly 20 years.
“It makes us very unique,” said Zaret about the script. “We also have kids and adults acting, so that leads to a lot of fun, too.”
Set in 1985, students of the fictitious Arborville Academy of the Arts are preparing for their school play, a musical version of the literary classic, “Jane Eyre.” But when Hollywood movie-makers get wind of the production, it eventually becomes an ever-changing movie set going from '80s romantic comedy to a “Star Wars” sing-along.
