xmo, get a life. I mean, it's a show. it isn't some bland, droll politically correct show. It's theirs. Let them call it what they wish. The 'correct' message be damned. And I will tell you something else, skulls of mush is disrespectful.

I was at this event and have for the last few years. This is really a showcase of some very talented youth. Any school, state, local official considering ending funding of the arts for schools only need to attend one of these events and clearly see what would be missed. The photo's missed out on showing the opening act of the Detroit Youth Choir. Truly and outstanding performance. Was Sharp late?

Yes, Detroit Youth Choir was fantastic...wish they sang more than 2 songs. Would like to hear a full concert from them some day.

I don't think the name "Breakin Curfew" sends the correct message to our impressionable "skulls of mush" It makes it sound like it is OK to to defy authority, even "Cool". Next thing you know, they will have a program called "TEXTING while Driving" because it id "Bad". They need to rename this " Think your being bad but you are not"

I agree with Rod that defying authority isn't *necessarily* bad. I can see your point about the name, though. I think what's really the problem is this: the implication that being artistic and creative and talented should be associated with being rebellious somehow. Being rebellious isn't necessarily wrong, but the idea that if you are creative you are therefore a rebel definitely sends the wrong message. That may not be the message that was intended, but I can see how it can be viewed that way. It definitely comes from the (annoying) association of rock music with rebellion.

It, um, *is* OK to defy authority.

@xmo-are you serious? I mean, really? Do you not see the play on words? Most of the kids at the event are teens, so "Breakin' Curfew" and being up and out the house past 10pm is really breaking curfew in most/some homes. Defy authority....really?!?

ooh.. "Texting While Driving" has a nice ring to it. Maybe an emo band you'd see shirts at Hot Topic for.
