Paul Keller Quartet to be featured Friday in AnnArbor.com Summer Concert Series

The AnnArbor.com Summer Concert series this week showcases a longtime pillar of the local jazz scene, the Paul Keller Quartet.Keller is a bandleader, musician, composer, and operator of his own independent record label with extremely deeps roots in the local jazz community. For more than two decades, his big band, the Paul Keller Orchestra, has had a regular Monday night gig around town: It started as the Bird of Paradise Orchestra in the old Bird of Paradise Jazz Club, moved to the Firefly Club as the Paul Keller Orchestra, then stopped at Keystone Underground and most recently plays at the Zal Gaz Grotto Club.
Keller, a master string bass player, also performs regularly in a quartet format, which is the plan for Friday. His label, PKO Records, has produced his own albums as well as recordings by other notable local jazz musicians; in addition, Keller has played as a side man on more than 60 albums by other acts, including major names like Diana Krall.
