President’s Day is just around the corner. Do your kids understand what President’s Day is all about? You can make learning fun through use of hands on activities. A visit to the Kaboose.com website revealed a variety of activities and crafts to stimulate discussions.
One craft idea displayed at the website was a powdered wig (symbolizing the type that George Washington wore). This simple project is appropriate for children ages 5 years old and up. The materials include a paper painter’s cap, cotton balls, black felt and craft glue. The finished project can be used for playing dress up.
Have you ever told your kids, “Don’t play with your food"? Well now they can. There was a creative idea at the website that showed how to make a log cabin using pretzels. If you have kids 7 years old and up, they can make a replica of the White House using craft sticks. Directions for making these projects can be found at the Kaboose website.

Challenge the kids with a short quiz to see how much they already know about the presidents. Make up your own or take an online quiz. A quiz suitable for elementary age children can be found at www.applesfortheteacher.com/prestriv.html. Sample questions include: Who was the youngest president? Who was the oldest president? The site also has printable coloring sheets for younger children.
Make this President’s Day memorable for the kids using hands-on activities. What are your suggestions for President’s Day activities?
