Gallup Park Playground - explore an imaginary river world

Gallup Park is by far the most popular of Ann Arbor's parks with it's paved track, nature trails, boating, fishing, and picnicking opportunities. The park is home to two playgrounds, too. The playground on the south-side of the river is a standard, prefabricated structure that is close to a parking lot and covered picnic shelters, is certainly worth a visit. But the playground adjacent to the Canoe Livery and meeting room is a unique creation and a wonderful contribution to our town.
Built in the last few years, this playground with a river-based theme inspiring imaginary play, was conceived by Cheryl Saam, Facility Supervisor of the Gallup and Argo Canoe Liveries. All elements of the playground were selected with safety in mind and are low to the ground, which is padded with mat made from shredded tires (odor-free). Climb the cliffs of a deserted island, play leapfrog with a giant frog, slide down a 500cm raging waterfall, paddle a kayak, and walk the plank from a pirate ship and splash into the sea, before riding whirlpool (tire swing). A giant turtle lays it's eggs in the sandbox nearby.
Picnic tables and restrooms are available year-round. The "Perk and Paddle" Cafe provides coffee and baked goods in the warmer months.
