Friday concert features a variety of current and former Ann Arborites
Hey, indie rockers, looking for something to do on Friday? Check out Palmyra, who play at 213 E. Kingsley with Red Tail Ring and MC Trashpedal, with music starting at 9 p.m. Admission is a suggested donation of $3.
Though based in NYC, two of Palmyra's four members have local ties, including frontwoman Gina Pensiero, formerly of The Dumb and Ugly Club and solo project Umberto and guitarist/singer Karl Sturk, ex-The All-Night Push and The Ambitious Brothers.
"Mise-En-Scene", released last year, is the band's debut CD and finds them bringing together rock, noise-folk, and twee elements to create a sound that's alternately dreamy and poppy.
Red Tail Ring is a recent project comprised of Ann Arbor's own Laurel Premo plus Michael Beauchamp (who played with Palmyra's Sturk and Chris Bathgate in The Ambitious Brothers). The duo's stripped-down instrumentation and evocative harmonies are inspired by old-time folk music.

On the other side of the sonic spectrum, former U-M adjunct professor-turned-noise performer MC Trashpedal (AKA Ian Fulcer) uses instruments of the novelty and typical variety plus old effects pedals to produce cutting-edge sounds.
