Organissimo celebrating new CD, then taking a break
The featured attraction at this month's 5:01 Jazz Series at Goodnite Gracie features organissimo, and it will be the last time for a while that local fans will have the chance to hear this well-regarded Michigan jazz organ combo.
The reason: Leader Jim Alfredson wrote in a recent email to band supporters that he has been offered the keyboard chair in the touring band for blues singer Janiva Magness.
Wrote Alfredson: "I'm really excited about this opportunity even though it means that organissimo must go on hiatus for the time being. The decision was not an easy one to make but I sincerely believe this will lead to more opportunities for the band in the future. This year I will be touring with Ms. Magness all over the USA and even to Europe."
First, though, the band is releasing a new album called "Alive & Kickin'" and doing a few dates as CD release parties, including the show this Friday at Goodnite Gracie. The CD can be ordered online here.
Listen to the title track of organissimo's previous album, "Groovadelphia":
The show at Goodnite Gracie is part of WEMU's Jan Winkelman 5:01 Jazz Series, a free happy-hour music showcase on the first Friday of the month. The show is set for 5 p.m. Friday, April 2 at Goodnite Gracie, 301 W. Huron Street in Ann Arbor.
