on stages: 'The Glass Menagerie' at Performance Network, 'The Fantasticks' at the Encore
Two major productions open in previews this week, bringing three professional theaters in Washtenaw into production mode. What is a preview exactly? It varies a bit by location, but in Washtenaw County it is a performance that is open to the public before the critics are invited in to write reviews.
Previews are a sort of “test run” where audiences can see what amounts to a nearly finished production, for as low as half price—one of the best entertainment bargains around. Oftentimes, previews come with a talk back session after the show, allowing audiences to become a part of the process of shaping the final production.
