Mixed Company Troupe offers patrons dinner, a show, and the chance to be part of the story

By AnnArbor.com Staff

On Saturday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m., the Mixed Company Troupe (MCT) and the Portage Yacht Club, located at 8930 Dexter-Pinckney Road in Pinckney, will present "Acting with the Stars: Lines ala Mode."

Thanks to "Mission Impossible"-style technology, three audience volunteers are wired up to star opposite MCT's professional actors. With each volunteer performing in a one-act play, he or she hears the director's voice in an earbud; by repeating lines and following cues, a roller coaster ride of plot twists and turns ensues.

Volunteers don't know the script, but the director guides them safely to the play's end, and the rest of us eavesdrop as things at the center table go strangely awry. Plus, tickets to this all-new show could be a Valentine's Day gift, since the stories focus on relationships.

The first play, "Brother Husbands," places our volunteer's character opposite a pompous business man and his feisty, cougar-like wife.

The second play, "Flight of the Cigar," offers up a therapist who has too much fun with her job. Though Danny (the 2nd volunteer), seeks help with regard to his brother's reckless quest for love, what he gets is songs and dance - all inspired by his brother's travails. Are we feeling better yet?

And the third play is "The Stranger's Joystick." Here we meet Larry Crichton, an air traffic controller who thinks he's found the perfect solution to reconciling the polar opposites of sex and the workplace. In his mind, anyhow, the plan for seduction is sure to fire on all four cylinders.

For reservations to the show, call 734-426-4155. Tickets cost $40 each for 90 minutes of theater and a-three course dinner. (Tax and gratuity additional, cash bar.) Recommended for mature audiences. For more information, go to www.mixedcompanytroupe.com
