Michael Lee and Opus Mime performing in Chelsea

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Michael Lee and Opus Mime will present a performance — featuring special guest Perry Perrault and some talented high school actors from Chelsea High School — on Friday, May 27 at 8 p.m. at the Washington Street Education Center (the old high school), at 500 Washington St. in Chelsea. Tickets cost $10 ($8 for students). For reservations, email rthompson@chelsea.k12.mi.us.

The performance by Michael Lee and Opus Mime culminates a two-week artist residency with Rachael Thompson's Acting Class. The company, based in Michigan since 1995, has been on hiatus for a couple years while Lee has toured his solo show and worked on various projects around the U.S.

Students will have worked with Michael in class, then auditioned and rehearsed, learning unique mime pieces to join Michael on stage for the performance. Even Thompson will be on stage, in a singing role in "The Farmer."

Group pieces include "Chat Room," "Twiddles" and "Ballroom," with duets such as "Cool It," "The Conversation" and, along with longtime collaborator Perry Perrault, the hilarious comedy "Shadow Play."

Lee travels widely in the U.S.; is regularly a guest artist at state, regional and international thespian festivals; coaches and directs theater productions in Austin, Texas; and just returned from stints in Chicago and Ottawa, where he has served as an acting coach for figure skaters.

When in Michigan, he coaches Olympic skaters at Arctic Edge, and appears with Mixed Company Troupe in speaking roles.
