The Purple Rose Theatre Company will present "Jeff Daniels’ Onstage & Unplugged" for a limited six-show engagement from Thursday, Dec. 27 through Monday, Dec. 31. All performances will be at The Purple Rose Theatre Company, at 137 Park Street in Chelsea.

A prolific songwriter and playwright, Daniels (PRTC executive director and founder) will perform an arsenal of songs that are alternately humorous and poignant. Daniels has toured nationally with his music, but has reduced his concert appearances since landing the lead role on HBO’s acclaimed series "The Newsroom."

“Jeff’s got an incredibly busy schedule now, so we’re honored that he’s able to fit in these concerts during his holiday break,” said PRTC artistic director Guy Sanville in a press release. Daniels will be joined by special guests Brad Phillips and Jed Fritzemeier, the Ben Daniels Band and Luc “The Roadie” Daniels and his Big Bay Shuffle for both New Year’s Eve performances. A special event ticket price of $250 for the 8 p.m. show on New Year’s Eve will include dinner, celebratory drinks, special guests and prizes.

After a one-year hiatus from “Unplugged,” this year’s lineup will feature old favorites as well as newer songs from his most recent release, "Keep It Right Here" (featuring Brad Phillips and Dominic John Davis). His first album, "Jeff Daniels Live and Unplugged," was recorded in 2001 during the original PRTC concert that sparked the tradition. These and Daniels’ other critically acclaimed albums—"Live at the Purple Rose," "Grandfather’s Hat" and "Together Again, with Jonathan Hogan"—are available for purchase at The Purple Rose Theatre Company Box Office. CDs and information about Daniels’ music career are also available online at JeffDaniels.com.

Tickets for Jeff Daniels Onstage & Unplugged are on sale to the general public beginning Nov. 19, by phone at 734-433-7673, and online at www.PurpleRoseTheatre.org.

I saw Jeff do a show like this on Mackinac Island at the Grand Hotel a couple of years ago and it was tremendous fun! His live performances are great.

The ticket price seems very fair-we'd pay much more in England for concerts of this nature. Given this is one very busy man and the proceeds benefit the Purple Rose theatre, not much profiteering for personal gain is going on here it seems!

If he sells out every show, he should clear $100k in 4 days (not including merchandise). Not a bad gig if you can get it.

Trust me, I have no problem with people making money in a free market. I think its great that there's a healthy market like this for performing arts, and if the money goes to back to the Purple Rose, even better.

Although this year's press release doesn't specifically mention it, historically these shows have been benefits for the theater. (And whatever the gross is, don't forget there are expenses to presenting a show)
