Chelsea native Jeff Daniels has been nominated for a Golden Globe Award for his starring role on the HBO series "The Newsroom."

Daniels' work on the series has been widely acclaimed, and the Golden Globe nomination comes just the day after he was also nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award.

Daniels was nominated for best actor in a TV drama, along with Steve Buscemi for “Boardwalk Empire," Bryan Cranston for "Breaking Bad," John Hamm for "Mad Men," and Damian Lewis for "Homeland."

Daniels has established an enviable Hollywood career while remaining based in the Chelsea area. His movie credits include "The Purple Rose of Cairo," "Gettysburg," "Dumb and Dumber," "The Squid and the Whale," and "Good Night, and Good Luck." He also founded the Purple Rose Theatre Co. in Chelsea and has become a successful playwright; and in recent years, he's moved into work as an accomplished singer-songwriter as well.
