Iggy Pop, punk icon and now bobblehead

If there was any remaining doubt that Iggy Pop had secured his place in pop culture for many years to come, consider it gone: There's an Iggy bobblehead.

A website called Aggronautix has begun pre-orders for a limited-edition (1,000) release of the bobblehead doll, to begin shipping in early October. The description of the item reads, "Since his raucous proto-punk, peanut butter smearing days with The Stooges, few "street walking cheetahs" have mastered the maniacal with as much grit, gusto and flair as Iggy Pop."

The 7-inch doll sells for $24.95.

Pop was raised in Pittsfield Township, first finding a small measure of fame as leader of the Ann Arbor-based band The Stooges in the late 1960s and early '70s. Over the years, the Stooges' influence was gradually recognized—some consider them the first punk band—while Pop eventually became a solo star. Recent years have seen once-unthinkable developments like Pop's recognition as one of NPR's "50 Great Voices," his appearance on "American Idol," and the Stooges' induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. So maybe the bobblehead was inevitable.

Last year, Pop and the reunited Stooges played a special concert at the Michigan Theater in tribute to Ron Asheton, the band's late original guitarist.

Details on the doll can be found on the Aggronautix website.

I love the Stooges'. Songs like I Wanna Be Your Dog and Down On The Street make me want to turn up the radio and put down the windows!
