We asked and you answered. The nominations are in for the best brewery in the Ann Arbor area, and now it's time to put it to a vote.

AnnArbor.com and MLive are teaming up to find the best brewery in the state of Michigan, and you can imagine that the competition is fairly intense. Craft beer is a booming business in Michigan, and the Washtenaw Country area is well represented with a significant list of high-quality brewers.

Based on the comments this week, allegiances among our readers are pretty evenly split, and the vote should be a close one. Our poll will be open until 9 p.m. on Sept. 9. Come back and vote once per day, and make sure to tell your friends.

After we've determined our reader favorites, MLive statewide entertainment reporter John Gonzales will be touring the state, taste-testing as he goes. Local beer expert David Bardallis, AnnArbor.com beer columnist and author of "Ann Arbor Beer: A Hoppy History of Ann Arbor Brewing" will be joining us on the Ann Arbor leg of Gonzo's beer trip.

Well, no - you'd just get fudged numbers, to wit: If Jolly Pumpkin opened a branch in Ypsi., that combo would win by a mile. ABC is good, but on many nights it's out of several of its beers. A brewery out of several beers? That's like Cottage Inn being out of several varieties of pizza. Kinda difficult to defend... I usually disagree with aa.com's non-scientific polls -- for instance, the disturbing number of readers clamoring for a P.F. Chain's to open in Briarwood -- but, this time, the best brewery won.

Add ABC and The Corner Brewery together and you can see who the best is by far.

I love the fact the Corner has all those windows. Most bars are so dark you have to squint your eyes coming out. I also think your list is pretty darn good, kudos.

ABC (and Corner) have got to take this for all they do for and with the community...however Jolly Pumpkin wins for being on the cutting edge with Mr. Jeffries wonderful sour beers...Original Gravity is excellent as well...Witches Hat is up and coming...Cheers!

Arbor Brewing Co. and the Corner Brewery are the same company and brewery. They should not be listed separately.

They are not "essentially" the same, they are the same. Corner Brewery is a tasting room for Arbor Brewing Co's bottling plant. Voting for them separately makes no more sense that it would be to vote separately for each of Budweiser's 12 plants in a national competition.

They are essentially the same company, yes, but they each brew beer and run different types of establishments.

Ha! I was just remembering Leopold Brothers. For a while there, it was where we went for all the going-away parties for Borders HQ employees.

You should be able to see the poll now EH, but your Duggan idea is not too bad. One of the breweries in Detroit should create an election batch of beer with blank labels.

So, how do we vote? Is this a write-in campaign? If so, I vote for Mike Duggan.

while your voting for Mike Duggan I'll be getting my hair cut by Mike Dugeon. After that I might have a beer at the Wolverine on Stadium. Now since I deviated slightly off topic I suppose the delete gang is debating pulling the plug 5-4-3-2-1......
