Nominate your Ann Arbor-area favorite as Michigan's Best Burger
Jessica Webster | AnnArbor.com
We're looking for your suggestions for the best burger in the area. Nominate your favorite burger in the comments below.
What makes a great burger? We’re thinking quality of ingredients and toppings, creativity, flavor, the quality of the beef and bun, and those intangibles that make you want to return the next day.
Maybe it’s a burger loaded with cheese and crazy toppings. Or maybe it’s a perfectly seasoned patty, cooked medium rare on a pillowy bun with just a smear of ketchup.
We'll take your responses here and create a poll on Friday. Make sure to come back and vote. Gonzo will be visiting our top reader favorites and will weigh them against the best burgers from across the state to determine the winner of Michigan's Best Burger.
Have a favorite burger outside of Washtenaw County? We're looking for those too. Make sure to include the restaurant name and Michigan city, and we'll pass your suggestions along to Gonzo.

Mark's Midtown just over the 94 bridge on South State. Their Ham & Cheddar Burger (or Ham & Swiss) is the best burger for me, with Crazy Jim's coming in second. Eve without the ham Mark's is superior. Why is Mark's the best ? Because it is cooked on a grill where all sorts of other stuff is cooked, and the flavor of the meat is incredibly rich. Places that just cook burgers can never match that.

I'm a fan of Bagger Dave's too! The meat to cheese ratio is excellent, and the buns aren't too hefty or too dry.

I went on a quest to go to almost every cheeseburger place in the area, going to over 30 places. I was surprised that some of the most touted were very average, and some of the best were often not mentioned. There is a lot of personal preferences in this contest, but some of the best burgers were (not in order): Bridgewater Bank (Bridgewater) Dan's Downtown Tavern (Saline) Five Guys (shocking that a chain sneaked in, AA) Bagger Daves (AA)

I gotta say I've always loved Cafe Zola and Grizz Peak when it came to A2 burgers. Then about a month ago I had the Cheeseburger at The Ravens Club. For a foodie who loves to travel and go on vacation just to try new 'local' restaurants, good food makes great memories. For example the best mexican food I've ever had was at the Cactus Cantina in Washington D.C. three years ago. Still to this day I think about that place. Well, I had the Cheeseburger at The Ravens Club... hands down, the most enjoyable burger eating experience EVER. I stopped eating, called the waitress over, thanked her for bringing me this amazing burger and to please thank the Chef for me. Just perfect!

Right now, Roy's Big Squeeze in Ypsi. When I want a burger I want a juicy sloppy burger with the simplest things on it. Mustard, ketchup, mayo, pickles, onions and lettuce and that is it.

Awesome to see so much exposure for the Bridgewater Bank! It's one of our favorites, even our "homebase", if you will. We've always had burgers, but we've heard nothing but great things about all of their food. If you haven't been out there, head to the 'Bank...it's the best tavern in Bridgewater! :-)

Bridgewater Bank Tavern - this bar always seems to fly under the radar when it comes to best burger. Since the girls took over a couple years ago I crave their burger! Extremely juicy, full of flavor and the cooks sure know how to cook it perfectly! I've tried them all, one covered in homemade onion rings and chili, another with sautéed onions, green peppers, and mushrooms. A lot of options!

@cfsunlet: It depends on my mood :) Fritas is great, but I usually try and "health" it up by getting it on lettuce. Old Town has tempeh burgers that I really like, and Sava's has a good black bean burger - although I used to like it more when they served it in a wrap instead of a bun.

That list doesn't mean anything, anyone working in a food industry knows its nearly impossible to keep up with everything when the man comes to inspect. If they are under 2 core violations, its probably a pretty nice restaurant. And realistically, the top burger places, did pretty good

Gotta go with Blimpy on this one. Honorable mention: Aut Bar. I see people mentioning Casey's. I used to go there frequently and would put their burgers up against any I've ever had. But a few year back, I returned to Casey's after not going there for a while (I moved to another part of town)... and it was clear they were no putting some sort of filler in their ground beef. Previously, it was of top quality... but now it tasted more like grain than meat. Maybe this has changed? Hope so, as Casey's was one of the few places around that when you order your burger to be cooked rare, they know what you mean. I'll give it another shot.

I made the trek out to Miller's recently, and I have to agree with you. Others in my party were disappointed, but I think it all comes down to what your burger expectations are. For a perfect marriage of well-ground meat, cooked to perfection, nestled on a pillowy bun, Miller's is hard to beat.

Okay, I promise I am not a food snob and I appreciate a good deal and usually don't like to pay $14 for a burger. That said, the BEST burger I've had in A2 was made at none other than the Ravens Club. Surprised? So was I. I thought Ravens is where you go for beef wellington and cosmopolitans, but it turns out they've got a good burger too.

Also Brad, I'm sorry, I frequent tastey Grange, but I gotta say the three times I've tried their burgers they've been tasteless. Not bad, not good, I just knew I was eating beef. On the other hand give me a starter of their scotch egg, then move on to the house gnocchi with a side of duck fat fries with an obligatory cocktail (or two) and it's heaven.

So the chef previous to the current ravens club chef had the bacon egg burger. The current chefs is different and i dont know if you can say he "apprenticed" at grange considering he was the sous chef. Sorry brad but had to fact check you on that one. Also he uses different cuts of meat than grange. And the bacon jam on the burger at grange was created by the ravens chef when he was there. He loves grange and chef brandon, so this isnt any kind of rant, just setting some facts straight. Personally im voting for the carlisle london chophouse burger.

I think Sidetrack's burgers are amazing, but I still agree with you. Wurst's burgers are unreal. They had a special one a few months ago with their unbelievable bacon jam. I still have daydreams about it.

Wurst bar definitely should win the most creative award. Hands down ann arbor/ypsi/michigan in general, Wurst bars food is the most creative. Their burgers are amazing. But i feel like one of the sidetracks burgers might win over wurst burgers

Love the burgers at The Sidetrack, in Ypsilanti. Several years ago they were voted #19 out of the top 20 nationwide, and are still making a great burger.

Last time we went to Sidetrack (some years ago, admittedly) the burger was extremely meh. I hate to be a chain lover, but my favorite is Five Guys these days.

Toss up between Ypsi's Chick Inn's Paul Bunyan Burger and Milan's Roy's Barbeque and Burgers' Big One With Cheese.

To be clear - I've had many a Paul Bunyan burger since college - I just haven't indulged in the shake and onion rings alongside the burger since college.

I love me a Paul Bunyan burger with onion rings and a strawberry-chocolate shake. I don't think I've had this meal since college, but I have fond memories.

Krazy Jim's is the one and only. I hope the location is the only thing they change, but I fear for the worst.

Nae, do nah defame the Scots wi sech poor cuisine, eh? Besides, Mc is Irish, Mac is Scottish. Now bad Irish food? I think that's an oxymoron.
