Michigan's Best BBQ results announced
Melanie Maxwell | AnnArbor.com
After taking the weekend to digest his findings, Gonzo has determined his choices for three categories: a ranked top 10, a list of rising stars, and "the best of the rest."
Both Washtenaw County barbecue destinations he visited made his "rising stars" list. Red Rock Downtown BBQ was called out for "quality food with great word of mouth." And Satchel's brisket was noted for being tender and top-notch.
You can find all the details on Gonzo's post on our media partner MLive's site.

Do we know whose BBQ is depicted in the photo? There's no caption.

Interesting that all of the results seem biased toward Texas as the standard. For those among us whose tastes lean further east, to Georgia and the Carolinas, there is an entirely different discussion to have.

I am heartened to see that Slow's is mid-pack. I like the restaurant, but it's not the best BBQ. I will always be suspicious of a BBQ place that takes reservations and/or has valet parking. I am totally not surprised that West Texas did well. Their brisket and hot links remind me of Austin. I think my first BBQ road trip will be to Home Boy in Flushing. That said, I am looking forward to Red Rock and Satchell's improving over time. Particularly for Red Rock, it's still the early days.

Congratulations to Satchel's for being included in the Rising Stars list. I'm sure the results will incite a number of comments, but I'd like to share a bit of southern expat barbecue wisdom: Spending time arguing about barbecue leaves you much less time to enjoy it.
