Every year on a Thursday in mid-July, the village of Manchester becomes Chicken Central with the return of the Manchester Chicken Broil.
Volunteers serve up an estimated 12,000 dinners featuring half-chickens and coleslaw made from a secret recipe. The event has become a well-established tradition, and this year marked its 60th occurrence.
Photographer Courtney Sacco captured these photos.

Those guys deserve real kudos for doing this at the hottest time of the year every year. My uncle owned the tiny gas station as you drove north out of town. We would always have a family reunion at their house there when the chicken broil happened. Fond memories of the tiny station. He had an old chest cooler where the pop was ice cold.
