food storage

By Marge Biancke

Hi Marge. It's good to see you in the paper again. I have a question. I just opened a package of pecans and they had a weird smell to them. What happened ?

First of all, I hope you didn't use the pecans. If you had them for quite a while they were probably rancid. Did you store them in your pantry for any length of time? Pecans can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 9 months and in the freezer for up to 2 years. Place the nuts in an air-tight plastic bag either in the refrigerator or freezer. Walnuts may be stored for up to one year in the refrigerator.

There is a great site out there with answers to most food storage questions

If any of you have food questions let me hear from you.
