Date Night: Bento Box. 6:30-10 p.m. Ann Arbor Cooks, 5060 Jackson Road, Ann Arbor. Bring your special someone and have some fun in the kitchen cooking up this entire menu. Feel free to bring a bottle of wine to enjoy with your meal. Wheats, Wits, and Lambics: Arbor Brewing Co. Beer Tasting. 7-9 p.m. Arbor Brewing Co., 114 E. Washington St., Ann Arbor. This is a chance to sample and learn about a wide range of wheat beers from full-flavored American wheats to sour Belgian lambics. Also, a drawing for beer-related prizes. Pittsfield Township Farmers Market. 2-7 p.m. every Thursday June 13 through Oct. 10. Pittsfield Township Administration Building, 6201 W. Michigan Ave., Pittsfield Township. Pittsfield Township will begin hosting a Farmers Market at the Administration Building at the corner of Michigan and Platt. Pittsfield is fully supportive of a Michigan-based product Farmers Market with a focus on providing fresh produce and vegetables, meats, cheeses, eggs, hams, salsas, and bread products from local area farmers. This class makes baking relaxing and fun. We'll teach you everything you need to know for a great weekend baking experience in this full participation class. Cooking with Keegan Rodgers: Making Ice Cream and Sorbet. 11 a.m. Home of Lisa Gottlieb, 722 Soule Blvd., Ann Arbor. Summer time is the best time to enjoy frozen treats. Learn the basic recipes to make ice cream, sorbet and gelato at home with People’s Food Co-op Head Baker Keegan Rodgers. Sit down with Coffee Co. managing partners Allen and/or Steve to tour their facility and learn about coffee - where it’s grown, how it’s sourced and how it’s roasted. Italian Summer Salads with Francesca Giaraffa. 6-8:30 p.m. Ann Arbor Whole Foods, 3135 Washtenaw Ave., Ann Arbor. When it's too hot to eat a heavy meal, salads make the perfect light dinner. Francesca shares four Italian favorites. Recipes: Caprese, the classic Neapolitan salad with fresh mozzarella cheese, ripe tomatoes and fresh basil; Tirolian Salad: arugula tossed with apples, sheep’s milk cheese, prosciutto and homemade croutons, dressed with a balsamic vinaigrette; Insalata di gamberi, shrimp tossed with asparagus, garbanzo beans, fresh fennel a lemon vinaigrette dressing; Farro Grain Salad tossed with grape tomatoes, olives, diced romano cheese and herbs, dressed in a lemon vinaigrette. Wine Tasting: Refreshment - Italian Style.. 6:30-8:30 p.m. Ann Arbor Cooks, 5060 Jackson Road, Ann Arbor. My favorite wines for outdoor quaffing are Italian whites. For this tasting I will bring wines made with grapes which are grown in relative proximity to the oceans around the boot, and not one Pinot Grigio will make the cut. I will pick between some of these extraordinary fruits: Verdicchio, Vernaccia, Vermentino, Trebbiano, Greco, Fiano, Falanghina, Malvasia, and maybe, just maybe, Arneis. Milan Senior Nutrition Program. 11:45 a.m. Milan Senior & Community Activity Center, 45 Neckel Court, Milan. In partnership with the Washtenaw County Senior Nutrition Program, they offer a nutritionally balanced meal three afternoons a week: Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. There is a suggested donation of $2.50 for anyone who is 60 years or older and a fee of $5 for anyone under the age of 60. They do ask for 48 hour advanced reservations. Call or stop by the office.

Townie Tiki Tuesday. 7-11 p.m. Live/The Last Word, 102 S. First St., Ann Arbor. Get downtown one last time before the art fair crowd takes over. Channa Masala with Poori with Jyothi Mathews Abraham. 6:30-8:30 p.m. Ann Arbor Whole Foods, 3135 Washtenaw Ave., Ann Arbor. This popular vegetarian curry from the Punjabi region in northern India features chickpeas simmered with all the delicate balance of spices Indian cooking is known for. Jyothi serves it with deep fried bread called Poori which is often served at special celebrations. Finish this traditional meal with a Gajjar Hawla, a sweet pudding made of carrots and garnished with pistachios, also popular in the Punjabi region. Rat Pad Releases. 6-9 p.m. Corner Brewery, 720 Norris St., Ypsilanti. Local amateur and professional brewers create imaginative beers on our 10-gallon Rat Pad brew system. We release these brews on the third Wednesday of each month and serve them at Corner while supplies last. Supplies are limited so come early. Wednesday Wine Tasting. 6 p.m. Paesano's Italian Restaurant, 3411 Washtenaw Ave., Ann Arbor. This informal wine tasting allows patrons to sample five up and coming wines from Italy. 60th Annual Manchester Chicken Broil. 4-8 p.m. Alumni Memorial Field (Vernon & Wolverine), Manchester. Shuttle from Manchester Middle School, 710 E. Main. About 7,000 chickens are cooked over nearly five tons of charcoal in four 100-foot-long broiling pits. Dinner includes half a chicken, dinner roll, homemade coleslaw, radishes, potato chips, and a beverage. Ice cream, water, and pop are available. The event includes a classic car show and live entertainment. Italian Sunday Supper with Francesca Giarraffa: Seafood. 5:30-8:30 p.m. Ann Arbor Whole Foods, 3135 Washtenaw Ave., Ann Arbor. In this course a complete rustic Italian meal is prepared featuring an entree, side dishes and dessert. The course is led by an instructor born into the Italian cooking tradition, who apprenticed at a specialty restaurant in Naples, Italy. Menu: "orata con salsa di capperi" (porgy filet lightly sauteed and topped with a sauce which includes capers, olives and lemon juice, served with zucchini strips baked with onions, rosemary and thyme); artichoke au gratin (baked with bread crumbs and fresh parsley); and blueberry tart (topped with homemade whipped cream).
