Eminem, Swift top sellers; Jim Morrison pardoned; Ed O'Neill misquoted (badly)
Rolling Stone reports that Eminem and Taylor Swift are the top-selling music artists of the year in online music sales as reported by Apples iTunes store and Amazon.com.
Other entertainment news of note online today:
MUSIC
• Well thank goodness we got this settled. The state of Florida pardoned the late Jim Morrison for two misdemeanor convictions stemming from an incident in which he reportedly exposed himself during a concert.
• Ugh. Expect more posthumous Michael Jackson recordings to be released.
• So depressing: deep into a bitter musicians strike, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra faces an $8.8 million budget deficit.
TELEVISION
• Prince was a surprise guest on, of all things, "The View."
• TV Guide caused a stir when it quoted "Modern Family" star Ed O'Neill saying Jane Lynch didn't deserve her Emmy win for "Glee." But now TV Guide admits misquoting him. One of the screwy things about this is that he did sort of seem to be suggesting what he was quoted as saying — but the actual words he used bear absolutely no resemblance to the "quote" TV Guide published, as EW.com reports. They're not even close.
• I really don't care who Barbara Walters thinks are the most interesting people of the year.
MOVIES
• MTV.com has one of its "cheat sheets" to "The Tourist," the new Johnny Depp/Angelina Jolie thriller.
• There's a new trailer online for the Detroit-shot movie "Real Steel."
ART & EXHIBITS
• The Hands-On Museum has a special opportunity for kids to build toys.
