Detroit Symphony Orchestra to play free concert at EMU
The Detroit Symphony Orchestra will perform a free concert at Eastern Michigan University’s Pease Auditorium at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1.
Free tickets will be available to the public on Sept. 21. They can be picked up at the EMU Convocation Center, with a limit of six for each person. For further information, call the EMU Ticket Office at 734-487-2282.
The concert is sponsored by the DTE Energy Foundation, and is part of a community series of events by the DSO.
“We are privileged and excited to have the Detroit Symphony Orchestra visit Eastern for this wonderful night of music,” said EMU President Susan Martin in a press release. “The DSO is one of the world’s truly great orchestras. We so appreciate this visit, and the community efforts of the DTE Energy Foundation.”
"The DTE Energy Foundation is proud to partner with two of our state's finest institutions to expand the DSO's reach beyond the Detroit area," said Fred Shell, President of the DTE Energy Foundation, regarding the orchestra and EMU. "This program will enrich the lives of music lovers, and as a bonus, build lasting relationships between the DSO and communities throughout Southeastern Michigan."
The DSO, the fourth-oldest symphony orchestra in the United States, is known for its distinct, trailblazing performances, visionary maestros and collaborations with the world’s foremost musical artists. The DSO makes its home in historic Orchestra Hall, one of America’s most acoustically perfect concert halls, and actively pursues a mission to impact and serve the community through music.
Conductor Leonard Slatkin, called “America’s Music Director” by the Los Angeles Times, became the 12th Music Director of the DSO during the 2008-09 season. For more information visit www.dso.org.
