Ann Arbor Civic Theatre will bid Old Man Winter a “chili” farewell on March 20 (5-8 p.m.) by hosting its first ever chili cookoff (featuring more than 10 different batches), beer tasting, and silent auction. The event will be hosted by the Corner Brewery, at 720 Norris in Ypsilanti.

Local companies and individuals are providing items for the silent auction, and proceeds from the event will fund shows for Civic’s 2010-2011 season, which will be announced at the event.

Judges for the chili cook-off will be John Fischer, chef at Gratzi; Martin Contreras from /aut/Bar; and Julie Halpert, a restaurant reviewer for AnnArbor.com.

$20 tickets for this event include chili tasting, 5 beer samples, and a keepsake tasting glass; $10 tickets include everything but the beer samples; kids age 5-10 cost $5; and kids 4 and under are free. (Extra beer and chili tastings will be available for an additional $1 each.) Advance tickets are available by calling A2CT at 734-971-2228, though tickets will also be available at the door on the day of the event.

I believe that volunteers are providing the chili samples, so if you wish to find out about possibly participating in the cook-off, I suggest calling A2CT at 734-971-2228.

Who is providing the chili samples? And how might one donate an item to the auction?
