Chuck Mitchell performs at the Green Wood Coffee House on Friday
Singer/guitarist/actor Chuck Mitchell — a Detroit native (and ex-husband of Joni Mitchell) whose credits include "A Prairie Home Companion," and "Mr. Foster & Mr. Twain," a 2-man minstrel show in which Stephen Foster (Mitchell) joins Mark Twain for an evening of story and song — will perform at the First United Methodist Church of Ann Arbor's Green Wood Coffee House, at 1001 Green Road, on Friday at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12.
In his 1-man show, Mitchell sings contemporary songs by Guy Clark, Fred Eaglesmith, Billy Joe Shaver, Michael Peter Smith, and Cheryl Wheeler, among others. He also sings cabaret songs by Brecht and Weil ("Mack the Knife" and "The Bilbao Song") and whimsical songs by Flanders & Swann (“The Gnu" and "Have Some Madeira, M'dear"). He’s likely to rove the room singing "Freeborn Man" by Ewan McColl, or "Necessity" from Finian's Rainbow, and he often weaves poetry by Robert Frost and T.S. Eliot into his shows.
