Black Hat, at Crazy Wisdom Saturday, sets poetry to music

By Roger LeLievre

Who says music and poetry don’t mix?

Frankie the K and Caroline Maun, singer-songwriters from nearby Clinton Township who perform under the name Black Hat, bring their Leonard Cohen-Tom Waits- Leon Russell inspired show to at Crazy Wisdom Bookstore and Tea Room.

They describe their performance as “modern, original poetry set to music with ruthless tenderness” that “will make you feel honest emotion.” Jim Hart is the drummer and percussionist who ties it all together.

Crazy Wisdom Tea Room offers an alcohol-free environment where artists can be assured of attentive / appreciative audiences. The intimate venue - which serves coffee, tea and sweet treats, also seeks to serve as an incubator for the next generation of great songs and songwriters.

Black Hat appears at Crazy Wisdom Tea Room, 114 S. Main St., on Saturday, July 6 from 8:30-10:30 p.m. Admission is free. Details at www.crazywisdom.net or 734-665-9468.

I don't think anyone says music and poetry don't mix.
