Ann Arbor Public Schools celebrate music programs at Orchestra Night
By Lon Horwedel
The Ann Arbor Public Schools Music Department presented its annual Orchestra Night at Hill Auditorium Tuesday.
This annual concert showcases the orchestras of all six Ann Arbor middle schools plus Skyline, Huron and Pioneer high schools. More than 800 students perform in this annual event.
Photographer Lon Horwedel captured these images from rehearsals earlier in the day:

I was also in attendance for this remarkable evening. all the middle schools were represented, as well as Skyline (who really were spectacular), Pioneer & the Grammy Award winning Huron. All these orchestras did a fine job & sould be commended & encouraged. Thanx kids for a great evening of great music!!!

Both Pioneer and Huron are Grammy Winners! (not all in the same years, though) Last night, we saw why.

Ah, the Grammy award is Pioneer, not Huron.

@racerx: Not sure what your question is alluding to. In the photos I recognize some Clague students and some Huron students rehearsing... I only listed the Skyline High School piece because Lon had listed the Huron and Pioneer pieces. The middle school orchestra pieces were: Clague: Eleanor Rigby, March Slave Scarlett: Brandenburg Sinfonia, The King of Pop (Michael Jackson medley) Forsythe and Ann Arbor Open: Beethoven's Symphony No. 3 (Eroica), Artemis Rising Slauson: Moonlight Reflections, Russian Sailor's Dance from "The Red Poppy" Tappan: Mozart's Gavotte and Country Dance, M to the Third Power (Minor Meter Mix) What I particularly enjoy about this evening is that it's a celebration of music, not a competition. To see students giving other schools' orchestras a standing ovation was heartwarming.

Was Skyline the only school there? Weren't there other middle schools practicing?

You missed listing that Skyline Orchestra played Night on the Bare Mountain. A wonderful evening of terrific music. We are fortunate to have such outstanding teachers and dedicated students.
