Ann Arbor Civic Theatre announces the finals for its vocal competition for musical-theater-style performers, Civic Open ‘12.

Civic Open ’12 will showcase the area’s most talented vocalists who advanced to the final competition. The final event takes place Saturday, Dec. 1 at The Last Word, at 301 West Huron Street in downtown Ann Arbor. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the competition begins at 7:30 p.m. First and second-place winners will receive cash prizes plus the opportunity to perform their winning songs on The Lucy Ann Lance Show. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $25 for priority seating. Tickets are available by calling the Ann Arbor Civic Theatre office at 734-971-2228, or at the door of The Last Word, beginning at 7 p.m. the evening of the show. For additional information and directions, visit www.a2ct.org.

"The first Civic Open in 2008 was so much fun, we’ve decided to do it again this year," said director and event host Matt Steward in a press release. "It began as a fundraiser for Civic Theatre, but grew into this fabulous evening of entertainment and sold out the house. We definitely raised funds and fun, and we plan to do so again this year."

The finals will feature local celebrity judges including Russ Collins from the Michigan Theater, Deb Polich from Arts Alliance, Michigan Radio’s Cynthia Canty, and Broadway composer Neil Bartram. In addition, the audience will be asked to weigh in on their favorites, and special, audience-driven prizes will be awarded in addition to first and second place.
