Animal Planet's 'Dogs 101' to film at Chelsea's Ugly Dog Distillery
A film crew from the Animal Planet cable channel and a host of German wirehaired pointers will descend on Ugly Dog Distillery outside Chelsea on Tuesday to film an episode for the channel’s "Dogs 101" series.
The public is welcome to attend the filming, set for 4-7 p.m. at the distillery, 14495 North Territorial Road.
German wirehaired pointers are especially welcome, since the show will focus on that breed, and a barbecue is planned as part of the event.
The distillery, which makes small-batch vodka, was chosen because the German wirehaired pointer is the genesis of the Ugly Dog name. Owner Jon Dyer has been working with Animal Planet for some time to bring about the event. He has a personal interest in the breed, as an owner and trainer of “ugly dogs,” their nickname in Germany.
The label on the vodka bottle tells the story of how the product and its name came to be. According to Dyer, Ruger, the dog pictured on the vodka label, will be in attendance
According to an Animal Planet spokesperson, the show will air sometime in the fall.
