Christopher Gorham

USA Network

Christopher Gorham—the actor who costars in USA Network's "Covert Affairs" and played Henry on "Ugly Betty" had this response when the Chicago Tribune's Travel section asked him to recommend a destination in the U.S.: Ann Arbor.

Gorham—who says he is "completely in love with Michigan"—specifically mentioned Comet Coffee, Zingerman's Deli and Jefferson Market and Cakery.

How did he become so familiar with us? Gorham starred in the locally shot (and locally set) indie movie "Answer This!," and he attended the local premiere last fall at the Michigan Theater. (The movie is currently making the rounds at festivals while seeking a distribution deal.)

It's too bad the haters jumped all over the comments on this story. If anyone bothers to read through them and get to this comment, I just wanted to say that this is priceless national (and beyond) publicity for our city and state. Certain people grumble about giving tax breaks to film productions, but this is the kind of spin-off effect that made rural Iowa a tourist destination after Clint Eastwood filmed Bridges of Madison County there...or Savannah, GA, which boomed after the movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil was based there (also directed by Clint Eastwood, coincidentally). I think we should take the money we are dumping into Pure Michigan ads (that for some reason are mostly shown right here in Michigan) and use it to re-up the film incentives. Not only do they provide immediate jobs and economic stimulus to areas where filming takes place, but the films themselves become 90 minute commercials for our state. Interviews with the stars, directors and producers also can bring a lot of favorable publicity. If a movie is a smash hit and/or an Oscar winner, look out!

People in this area take the uniqueness of Ann Arbor for granted. A2 has alot of very interesting and charming ways about it. Nice to see the great vote of confidence it only helps the city and surrounding areas. This is just one of many great compliments A2 has received from all over this country. Always nice to hear good compliments.

Much worse than the bad weather are the pretentious, boring, uneducated Cynical cheap shot critics.

He must be desperate for a vacation spot to gush over pretentious, boring, university driven Ann Arbor. Without the U of M it would just be a boring little midwest town with bad weather.

Funny thing is, even with the Big U, it is still just a boring, little, midwest town with bad weather.
