Her latest CD "No Contradictions" is grounded in the world of heartfelt indie-folk, with added elements of electronic dance music and rap.

“It totally fit in with the concept of doing all these things all on one album,” she told AnnArbor.com earlier this year when asked about the touches of hip-hop and rap.

“At first it was going to be on separate EPs, and then we thought why don’t we throw it all together. It fit in with the idea of branching out a lot and the uniting theme is doing different things. It’s united in its diversity,” she explained.

In addition to her signature dreadlocks, she is known for her advocacy of healthier foods. Her song "We are Never Ever Eating Bad Together" is a take-off on a Taylor Swift breakup tune.

She cites Sufjan Stevens, Ingrid Michaelson, Regina Spektor, Jennifer Knapp, Brooke Fraser, Corinne Bailey Rae, Iron and Wine, India Arie and Feist as influences.

Abigail Stauffer plays Saturday, Aug. 31. From 6-9 p.m. at Mash, 211 E. Washington St. Admission is free. Details at www.mashbar.net.

The typical Hollywood lack of talent made-up for by shallow personalities and raunchy dancing? Some people are getting sick of that type of mega star and want something more. Someone who isn't missing the substance most of Hollywood's current mega stars have.

Ms. Stauffer has a strong desire for success and a lot of energy to reach for it. Wish her the best moving forward.
