TEANECK,
N.J. (May 12, 2011)
¾ Summer
is just around the corner and as children gear up for fun, sun and relaxation,
parents begin exploring summer activities and vacations.  Educators
at Kumon remind
parents that giving their child the much needed summer vacation from school
does not mean taking a vacation from learning
.

“It is just as important for children to
participate in learning activities that exercise their growing minds as it is
to be involved in physical activities that keep their bodies healthy and
strong,” says
Dr.
Mary Mokris, education specialist with Kumon
.

Kumon’s
enrichment program is waiving its enrollment fee the very first time in the
company’s history for families who enroll between June 1st and July
15th. Kumon gives children the daily practice needed to catch-up and
stay-ahead during the summer break. According to a Duke University study, most
students lose about two months of grade level equivalency in math computation skills
during the summer months, which can add up to more than two years of total
learning loss throughout a child’s academic career.  Summer is the ideal time to enroll in
Kumon, the world’s
largest after-school program, to help children get
¾ and stay ¾ ahead of the
curve.

If
students find their school work too challenging, or are seeking a challenge,
Kumon Instructors create lesson plans to help students build confidence, strong
academic skills and a love of learning.

Summer
Study with Kumon:

·
Only15-30
minutes of daily practice with twice weekly half-hour center visits.

·
Lesson
plans are personalized to each child’s ability.

·
Students
progress according to their actual ability and not by their school grade or
age.

Kumon’s
international curriculum is designed to prepare students to compete and
participate in the global marketplace. Students begin the program at a
comfortable starting point and work independently on daily worksheets to build
confidence and learning skills. This approach allows students to achieve
individual goals and advance to reach high school level material while still in
primary school. The standards are high and the curriculum spans material from
preschool to college.

The
reading program is designed to help students interpret information, think
critically, expand their vocabularies and enhance overall reading and writing
skills. From phonics to advanced comprehension, students master the English
language by studying great works of literature throughout cultures and
history.  The math program progresses
from counting through calculus.  Through
practice, students strengthen mental calculation and reasoning skills and
refine problem-solving techniques.
