Tim Hortons on South State Street aims for summer 2012 opening

Plans have been submitted to the city of Ann Arbor to build a Tim Hortons restaurant at the site of the former Enzo’s Sports Bar on South State Street.

The company recently signed deals to build stores at this site, which is owned by First Martin Corporation, and a space in Maple Village on the site of the former Golden Chef Restaurant, which was destroyed by fire in 2006.

A site plan submitted to the city calls to build a 1,950-square-foot Tim Hortons drive-through, with both interior and exterior seating for dining. The location is steps north of the corner of State and Ellsworth at the southern edge of the city. It's located a few hundred feet east of the site of a forthcoming Costco store.

If approved, Tim Hortons hopes to begin construction in spring 2012 and open for business in summer 2012, according to the plans.

Although plans were previously approved to convert the former Enzo’s property into an 8,500-square-foot retail development, the deal with Tim Hortons means First Martin will steer away from those plans, said Mike Martin.

Along with the Tim Hortons, First Martin will have space — after Enzo's is demolished — to build a second retail building.

The company is choosing from franchisee applicants to operate the stores. Both locations will have about 20 employees, Eric Ramsey, real estate manager for Tim Hortons, said in a previous report.

The Oakville, Ontario-based chain has more than 3,800 stores, including stores on Michigan Avenue in Ypsilanti Township and Michigan Avenue in Saline.

How about one in Dexter at I-94 and Baker Road?

The florist shop is open but I won't be going there because the building looks like it is going to collapse. I've been asking all of the coffee chains to look at this area for a coffee shop. I even gave the crew at Zingerman's an earful after opening up their coffee shop hidden back near the bakehouse. Coffee at that corner is going to be a gold mine for all the people who work in the area. There is NO PLACE to get coffee on the south side.

What about the one at Maple Village?

That's one of those locations that has simply never worked. Tearing it down for a Timmy's is a good move anyway; that and the CostCo should work very well. Maybe we'll get something to replace the florist shop.

That's not actually true. When it was Tripper's it was always packed. The trivia game was very popular and they had fantastic nachos! It hasn't worked since then though.
