Recycle Ann Arbor plans monthly paper shredding events
There may be no prettier sight than watching an giant file of old paper bills or tax documents destroyed in wild fashion in a giant paper shredder.
But that's the sight you can see Saturday — for a fee — at the first shredding event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. hosted by Recycle Ann Arbor and Maumee, Ohio-based Allshred Services.
It's the first of a monthly shredding event at Calvert's Roll-off Containers at 7891 Jackson Road. It's open to all residents and businesses in Washtenaw County. It will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every second Saturday of the month through October.
There's a $10 minimum fee per car with a $2 fee for a grocery bag full of paper and a $3 for a banker box. There's a 20-box maximum per vehicle.
"Many people would like to recycle paper files that they have accumulated around the house, but are concerned about identity theft and privacy issues," Recycle Ann Arbor CEO Melinda Uerling said in a statement. "We're offering this secure, 'on the spot' service and will even provide a 'certificate of destruction' for peace of mind."

Hey Nathan, how about some comment on why the $12 minimum when last year's event (Wednesday, September 22, 2010) at Recycle Ann Arbor was FREE and had a HUGE turnout?

Isn't THAT self-explanatory?? HUGE turnout!....people will pay for something they gave away free last year. Note that the 12.0 minimum is really cheap -- I run a business where we spend over 200.00 a year shredding stuff....boxes and boxes year round.
