• The CPA firm Wright, Griffin, Davis and Co. recently announced the promotion of Chris Sing to diretor, effective Jan. 1. Sing resides in Chelsea.
• Ann Arbor-based MedArray, a device manufacturer specializing in silicone hollow fiber membranes, recently added Mark D. Walbrook as a life science applications specialist. Walbrook will spearhead sales of MedArray technology in life science markets and will support the company’s manufacturing process development.
• Aastrom BioSciences, headquartered in Ann Arbor, recently hired Tim Mayleben as its new CEO, CFO and president.
• Direct sales company lia sophia recently announced top honors for its Excellent Beginnings Program Achievers for their outstanding sales accomplishments and professionalism. Kristin Kamin of Canton and Shannon Ward of Milan have earned this accomplishment in their first 15 weeks as new sales associates by attaining certain sales levels and by sharing lia sophia with other new advisors.
• ProQuest, an information technology firm based in Ann Arbor, has acquired the London School of Economics’ classic International Bibliography of the Social Sciences. Established in 1951, IBSS is the foremost abstracting and indexing database for social science and interdisciplinary research.
• 826michigan, an Ann Arbor nonprofit dedicated to supporting students’ creative and expository writing, has elected Don Woods as the newest member of its board of directors. Other members of the 826michigan board of directors include: President Angela Kujava, marketing director for Logic Solutions; Vice President Christopher Taylor, attorney with Butzel Long; Treasurer Richard Weise, Faber Piano Institute; Secretary Jennifer Traig, author of two memoirs; Vicky Henry, educator; Keith Hood, DTE Energy; Lauren London, attorney with Dykema; Jeff Meyers, editor of Concentrate Media and film critic for the Metro Times; Jacqui Robbins children’s book author; Laura Wagner, purchasing manager for Ford Motor Co.; and Jeffrey Williams, CFO of Concordia University.
• The Ann Arbor Area Board of Realtors installs its 2010 board of directors at the general membership meeting Jan. 14. Alex Milshteyn of Ann Arbor, Edward Surovell Realtors, is the 2010 AAABoR board president. Kay Merx of Saline, Real Estate One, is the president-elect for 2010. Andra Anteau of Ann Arbor, Edward Surovell Realtors, is the 2010 treasurer. Tonya Ireland of Saline, Real Estate One, is the 2010 treasurer-elect. • Earlier this month, Colliers International and FirstService Real Estate Advisors announced plans to combine their operations and global real estate platforms. In Detroit and Ann Arbor, clients and brokers will benefit from the resources and services of the global entity, which includes Global Corporate Solutions and Institutional Asset and Property Management.
• Ann Arbor-based property management firm McKinley recently announced additions to the executive committee. The executive team is responsible for ensuring McKinley’s core values are followed by all team members. The new members are Leslie Moubray, regional property manager, Midwest region; Tom Gritter, assistant vice president, commercial client services; April Davis, national leasing director, commercial; Joanna Dettling, asset manager, residential client services; Albert L. Berriz, director of marketing, media, & attraction; Ping Dai, controller, residential real estate.
• Domino's Pizza Switzerland has commissioned the Ann Arbor software firm Servant Systems to install the Domino's Franchise Office System in the multi-unit operation. This is the first European Domino's multi-unit franchisee to acquire the system.
• Bloomfield Hills builder Robert R. Jones has been selected as 2010 board chairman of the National Association of Home Builders. Jones is also active in the Home Builders Association of Washtenaw County.
• At the end of December, Cleary University signed an articulation agreement with Montcalm Community College in Sidney, Mich., allowing MCC students to transfer up to 82 credits to Cleary toward a bachelor's of Business Administration in Health Care Management or a bachelor's of Business Administration in Business Management. In addition, the two institutions are working on an agreement that would allow students to secure financial aid through one institution that would be applicable to coursework at both institutions. Cleary has campuses in Howell and Ann Arbor.
• Ann Arbor’s Salon Vox, owned by Jeniffer Hepler, recently was named to the "Salon Today 200" by Salon Today magazine. The magazine profiled the selected salons in its January 2010 issue. The 200 salons were selected for their best business practices from applications submitted by magazine readers.
• Amherst Partners LLC, a regional financial advisory firm with offices in Birmingham and Ann Arbor, announced Jan. 13 that the company achieved record revenue in 2009. The firm also celebrated its 15th year in business.
• Four companies recently received a combined total of $170,000 in funding from the Michigan Microloan Fund Program, managed by Ann Arbor SPARK. CTC Holdings, Energy Management Devices, MemCatch and Motor City Wipers will use the microloan funding to commercialize their products and accelerate business growth. Funding for CTC Holdings, Energy Management Devices and Motor City Wipers was provided through the Michigan Pre-Seed Capital Fund. Funding for MemCatch was provided through the Ann Arbor/ Ypsilanti Local Development Financing Authority.
