From new hires and promotions to industry awards, here's a roundup of achievements by businesses and individuals in the greater Ann Arbor area:

• Jim Burns, CPA has joined Vintage Financial Services of Ann Arbor to serve as a senior financial planner. Burns will be responsible for managing client portfolios, financial planning and assisting the company’s tax planning and preparation division.

• Black & Veatch in August marks the 25th anniversary of its operations in Ann Arbor. The engineering consulting company opened its Ann Arbor office in 1988, with approximately 25 professionals. Today, Black & Veatch employs more than 250 in Ann Arbor.

• Gov. Rick Snyder Aug. 13 announced the appointment of Patricia Rinvelt of Ann Arbor to the state Health Information Technology Commission. She will serve a four-year term on the 13-member commission that facilitates and promotes the design, implementation, operation and maintenance of Michigan's health care information infrastructure.

• Six experts will present treatments and therapies for autistic children at the ARC of Hope Spectrum 2013 conference at the Troy Community Center Oct. 19. Among the presenters are two from Ann Arbor: Dr. James Neuenschwander, who will present on bio-medical therapies, and Dr. Susan McCreadie, who will discuss nutrition.

• ProQuest has named Jonathan Collins to CFO. Collins has been with ProQuest since 2007 as vice president of global financial operations and has been interim CFO since May.

• During the month of September, Suburban Chevrolet Cadillac, located on Jackson Road in Ann Arbor, will give $100 to the Humane Society of Huron Valley for every car sold when a customer presents a special voucher. Besides the $100 per car sold with accompanying voucher, Suburban Chevrolet Cadillac will make their own donation of $1,000 to kick off the promotion.

• Arbor Hospice received a $7,000 donation from Whole Foods Market as a result of the grocery store giving its shoppers a choice of donating the 10-cent return they would otherwise had received for using their own reusable bag, part of Whole Foods' "One Dime at a Time" fundraiser.

• The CBS 62 (WWJ-TV) business/political program, “Michigan Matters” recently celebrated its 30th anniversary on the air. The show is hosted by Ann Arbor resident Carol Cain and features Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson and Ilitch Enterprises CEO Denise Ilitch as a regular panelists.

• In early August, Matt Bennett was named vice president of communications and enrollment services for Cleary University. Cleary is a business university with campuses in Howell and Ann Arbor.

• Financial Management Consulting Group, based in Kentucky, does a quarterly ranking of banks in the Midwest states based on quarterly reports submitted to the FDIC. Bank of Ann Arbor has been in the top 10 over the past several years, and this year, the bank reached the number one spot.

• Two attorneys from the Ann Arbor office of law firm Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione have been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America for 2014: Steven L. Oberholtzer and Eric J. Sosenko. Oberholtzer is the managing partner of the Ann Arbor office and was listed in the specialty area of patent law. Sosenko was listed in his specialty areas of patent law and trademark law as well as intellectual property litigation.

• In related news, patent attorney William R. Boudreaux was named a Life Sciences Star by LMG Life Sciences. Boudreaux is a shareholder in the Ann Arbor office of Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione.

• Ann Arbor-based Digital Devices revealed the first digital motion x-ray image capturing device for conventional medical x-ray installations during the Florida Chiropractic Association National Convention & Expo 2013 Aug. 22. The A2D2 1713-MOTION system is compatible with most medical x-ray generators including single phase and three phase, standard and high frequency x-ray machines.

• Outdoor apparel, equipment and footwear company The North Face opened its 52nd new store in the United States and Canada, in Ann Arbor Aug. 22. The store is located within Arbor Hills Crossing, 3050 Washtenaw Ave., Suite #105.

• Curtis Iorio of Farmington has joined Benz Insurance Agency in Ann Arbor as a business insurance agent.

• Five Michigan companies have received a combined total of $250,000 through the Michigan Microloan Fund Program, bringing the total amount loaned through the Fund to more than $3.8 million. The companies receiving this funding to support commercialization of their core products are: Exo Dynamics of Ann Arbor, commercializing a mechatronic back brace; Interleaved Magnetic Products of Ann Arbor, commercializing an energy-efficient magnetic-driven motor; Protean Payment of Ann Arbor, commercializing its reprogrammable smart card that replaces all of the cards in a consumer's wallet; Reconsider of Ypsilanti, commercializing its services as a center for information on local investments; and solartonic of Ann Arbor, commercializing its line of fully integrated solar products that extend beyond simple "panel on a frame" installations.
