The following is a list of achievements by businesses and individuals in the Ann Arbor area:

Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP recently announce that Bonnie R. Shaw has joined Honigman as an attorney in the firm’s litigation department as part of its intellectual property practice. Shaw will concentrate her practice on intellectual property litigation, including patents, trademarks, trade secrets, copyrights and contracts. Shaw will be based out of Honigman's Ann Arbor and Oakland County offices. Honigman is headquartered in Detroit with offices in Lansing, Oakland County, Ann Arbor and Kalamazoo.

Mike Kestly of Ypsilanti, president of Kestly Development, recently completed Level 2 Certification for the ProfileXT and Checkpoint 360 assessment instruments. To become certified, Kestly underwent a comprehensive training and testing process that included all aspects of assessment set-up, implementation, administration, and post-implementation support. The certification recognizes that the policies, practices and procedures related to the assessment ensure consistent quality in the services and products provided to clients. Kestly is also a strategic business partner with Profiles International of Waco, Texas. Kestly Development is an HR consultant firm with clients in Washtenaw County and throughout Michigan and the United States.

Aleksandr Milshteyn, a Realtor with Edward Surovell Realtors of Ann Arbor, was named to the "30 under 30" list by RealtorMag. In determining who makes the 30 Under 30 list, RealtorMag staff looks for candidates who are successful in the real estate business and have demonstrated ingenuity and creativity in their careers. They nominated 50 candidates, and a vote by readers determined the top 30. In related news from Edward Surovell, Dave Anderson recently joined the company's Ann Arbor office as a sales associate.

Ann Arbor SPARK recently celebrated the conclusion of its 19th Boot Camp program with participant investor pitches and a reception. At the concluding celebration, Brio Device LLC was selected as the “Best of Boot Camp” winner, based on the quality of its investor pitch and business plan. As winner, Brio Device received a space in the Ann Arbor SPARK Business Accelerator. Brio Device, the latest spin-out from the University of Michigan Medical Innovation Center, developed a flagship product, the SmartAirway, that improves the efficacy and safety of emergency intubation even when performed by less-skilled practitioners. Also during Ann Arbor SPARK’s Best of Boot Camp competition, Willy Kaye from Polaris was awarded “Best Pitch.” The award recognizes the most dynamic, influential pitch made to the judging panel. Ann Arbor SPARK’s Boot Camp is a two-day business planning and preparation event designed to help early stage technology businesses.

• Ann Arbor-based advertising and graphic design company Hile Design LLC has been hired to design a new website for Ann Arbor’s recently launched Vis-à-Vis Skin Spa & Bodywork.

Peter M. Falkenstein, a partner in the Ann Arbor office of Jaffe Raitt Heuer & Weiss P.C., was recently installed as the president of the Washtenaw County Bar Association. Falkenstein is a member of his firm's intellectual property and litigation practice groups, concentrating in trademark and copyright litigation, licensing, and registration, as well as e-commerce, cyberlaw and general commercial litigation.

• At its annual meeting, regional economic development nonprofit Ann Arbor SPARK elected its officers, board of directors and executive committee for 2011-2012. New members to the Ann Arbor SPARK board of directors are Ric DeVore, regional president, PNC; Marty Kahn, CEO, ProQuest; Mike Miller, head of online sales, Canada, and head of Ann Arbor office, Google; Conan Smith, Washtenaw County Commissioner and executive director, Michigan Suburbs Alliance; and Thomas Zerbuchen, director, University of Michigan's Center for Entrepreneurship. The 2011 officers are Stephen Forrest, vice president for research, University of Michigan, SPARK was re-elected board chairman; Tim Marshall, president and CEO, Bank of Ann Arbor, was re-elected vice chairman; David Parsigian, partner, Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP, was re-elected secretary; and Bhushan Kulkarni, president and CEO of GDI Infotech, was elected treasurer.

• The Washtenaw Community College board of trustees recently selected Rose B. Bellanca, Florida campus provost and chief operating officer for Northwood University, as the next president of Washtenaw Community College. A verbal offer was made and the deal is contingent on potential site visits and the negotiation of an acceptable contract. Once details are finalized, she is expected to begin serving as president of WCC on Sept. 1.

Doug Selby, president of Meadowlark Builders in Ann Arbor, was named a finalist for the 2011 Fred Case Remodeling Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Selby was chosen by a panel of judges from Case Design/Remodeling Inc., Hanley-Wood and Harvard University’s Joint Center for Housing Studies. The judging was based on four principal criteria: business acumen, financial strength, community and industry involvement and entrepreneurial spirit.

• The University of Michigan Board of Regents recently approved the appointment of Lisa M. Rudgers as vice president for global communications and strategic initiatives, effective June 1. The position of vice president for global communications and strategic initiatives replaces the current position of vice president for communications. Rudgers served as the university vice president for communications from 2000-2007.

• On May 18, the Rotary Club of Ann Arbor surprised Cheryl Elliott, president and CEO of the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation, with its highest honor: the Paul Harris Fellow - Distinguished Service Award. The award is accompanied by a $1,000 grant to Rotary International, which will be made in Cheryl Elliott’s honor. Award recipients need not be Rotarians, but are chosen for their demonstration of the Rotary motto-“Service above Self”. During Cheryl’s tenure at the Community Foundation, which began in 2001, AAACF’s assets have grown from $6.9 million to nearly $60 million. AAACF now awards more than $1.7 million in grants and scholarships annually.

Village Green, developer and manager of luxury apartment communities, was named to the CEL & Associates Inc. "A List," honoring the company for excellence in customer services. Village Green has offices in Cincinnati, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Tampa and Washington D.C., and manages several properties in the Ann Arbor area, including Village Green of Ann Arbor, Village Park of Ann Arbor and Mill Creek Townhouses. Village Green was awarded the A List award in the category for those companies with more than 75 apartment communities. Sixty-eight individual Village Green apartment communities were also recognized and awarded “A List” certificates for excellence in customer service, based on votes by residents living in the Village Green communities.
