From new hires and promotions to industry awards, here's a roundup of achievements by businesses and individuals in the greater Ann Arbor area:

Michael A. Schork Jr. has joined Ann Arbor Bancorp Inc., the parent company to Ann Arbor State Bank and Ann Arbor State Advisors, as first vice president. Schork will focus on local businesses with their retirement planning. He is based in the Ann Arbor State Bank building on West William in Ann Arbor.

• The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan announced that United Methodist Retirement Communities, based in Chelsea, is the recipient of the 2013 Richard F. Huegli Award for Program Excellence.

• Ann Arbor-based Tangent Medical, creator of IV therapy products, including the NovaCath Integrated IV Catheter System, was recently selected as one of 14 companies to be featured at the 2013 Breakthrough Conference & Exhibit for healthcare innovation.

• The Department of Veterans Affairs recently announced that it has met the goal to hire 1,600 new mental health professionals outlined in President Obama’s Aug. 31, 2012 executive order. VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System has hired nine new mental health professionals toward this goal.

• Con-way Freight recently received the Pro Patria Award from the Department of Defense for the Ann Arbor-based company's commitment to supporting the National Guard and Reserve. The company was nominated for the award by John "Pat" Petrillo, a driver sales representative at the Manchester service center. Petrillo is a member of the New Hampshire Army National Guard and has served on deployment with Alpha Company of the 3643rd Brigade Support Battalion, where he holds the rank of sergeant.

• Women's Caring Program announced June 18 that Emily Houk will serve as the organization's chief executive officer. The Women's Caring Program is based in Ann Arbor. The organization's signature program, ChildCare Commitment, is the only statewide program that provides this gap funding assistance to low-income families who are not eligible for public assistance.

• The Parade of Homes, sponsored by The Builders and Remodelers Association of Greater Ann Arbor, will be open for public tours today through Sunday. The event will feature 13 locations built or remodeled by builders who are all members of BRAG Ann Arbor or The Home Builders Association of Livingston County. Homes will be open from noon to 7 p.m. with the professionals on site to answer questions. Tickets will be sold at each home for $10 (ages 16 and younger get in free). • Six local CITGO Marketers representing more than 150 locally owned CITGO stations across Southeast Michigan participated in the third annual "Month of Mott" campaign, raising nearly $5,500 for the University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children's Hospital. From May 1 through May 23, participating CITGO stations sold paper "Mott blocks" for $1. All of the proceeds from this year's campaign were donated to the C.S. Mott Children's Hospital car seat safety program called "Mott Buckle Up!"

• Kelvyn Williams was recently elected to the board of directors of the Alzheimer’s Association, Michigan Great Lakes Chapter, headquartered in Chelsea. Williams is owner of BrightStar of Brighton/Howell.

• The University of Michigan Medical School has been awarded a $1.1 million grant from the American Medical Association in a national competition aimed at accelerating change in medical education. As one of only 11 medical schools selected as winners by the AMA, U-M will use the funds to prepare medical students to lead change in health and health care globally.

• CFI Group, a customer satisfaction technology and analytics firm based in Ann Arbor, June 12 announced the official rollout of its new Credit Union Barometer survey program. The tool is intended to help credit unions measure the member experience across the organization and benchmark themselves against the ongoing Credit Union Satisfaction Index most recently released in May of this year.

• Intalytics , headquartered in Ann Arbor, recently announced that, within the past few months, it has expanded its operations in all three of its locations. The Intalytics western office in Pleasanton, Calif. has recently opened and now houses professionals specializing in supermarket-oriented predictive analytics. The Irving, Texas office, which houses some of the company's statistical/modeling technology and platform development team members, has just expanded into a larger suite. And finally, Intalytics had outgrown its headquarters and thus has just completed a move to a facility in north Ann Arbor more than doubling the size of its headquarters. In aggregate, these offices will accommodate more than 50 professional analysts.

• Ann Arbor SPARK recently earned designation as an accredited economic development organization from the International Economic Development Council. The AEDO program accredits local and state economic development entities, regional public-private economic development partnerships, the economic development departments of utility companies, and nonprofit business associations.
