Following more than a year of planning and construction, the Tim Hortons drive-thru coffee shop at 3965 S. State St. in Ann Arbor is now open.

Tim Hortons marketing intern Lauren Schwecke said, via email, the shop opened in late December and is planning a grand opening event Jan. 31 through Feb. 2.

The franchise owner of the coffee shop, which is open 24 hours a day, is Elias Sayah.

Plans to build the Tim Hortons at the northeast corner of State and Ellsworth Road were approved by Ann Arbor City Council in April 2012. The former Enzo’s Sports Bar building was demolished and a 1,953-square-foot restaurant with drive-thru facilities was constructed in its place. The property owner is First Martin Corporation.

With 4,042 company-operated and franchised stores, the Ontario-based chain is rapidly expanding its southeast Michigan footprint. The coffee shop has been active in the Ann Arbor real estate market, and it recently opened stores on Ann Arbor-Saline Road and South University.

In August 2011, the chain announced plans to open a store at 175 N. Maple, the former Golden Chef site in the Maple Village shopping center, but a site plan was never submitted for that location.

Please...No left turns from Ellsworth turning into this place. Especially at 5 PM!

The northeast corner of Ellsworth and State St is an oil change place. Perhaps Lizzie, you should have said on Ellsworth "near" the northeast corner.

It's the only place in the area to get real Canadian food.

Too bad they don't serve peameal bacon or poutine.

Wow. Apparently, I'm one of the few commenters (so far, that is) who is not impressed with Horton's. I don't think their coffee is great. Ugh, donuts are gross. And, what else do they offer? Anything good? I doubt it.

I have only recently become a coffee drinker. The absolute best coffee is what I make at home from Whole Foods, fresh roasted (at the store). I grind it at home. I love the light roasts. Delicious! I buy to-go cups and take it with me. My son calls me a coffee snob, but he can't deny that it is good. : ) Nothing compares except Great Lakes Chocolate company on Zeeb road.

I usually grab a bagel. Less guilt than the doughnut. In Canada, if you order a coffee "regular", that is one cream and one sugar. A "double-double" is two creams, two sugars. Does that work here?

Ice Caps are where it is at with Tim Hortons, the sammiches aren't bad either for a quick fix.

Can't hold a candle to Dom Bakeries. Their donuts are bigger, better and cheaper.

Correct....or Dimo's. I had it bad for donuts last weekend. Sadly, Dimo's was closed and Dom's is a good 20-minute drive for me. But it was a drive I needed to make and it paid off. Remember to bring cash, as they don't take credit.

It is curious to me that Costco had to pay $500,000 toward the new roundabout, but Tim Horton's didn't have to pay anything for road improvements. Maybe because it is in the City and not the Township? I also saw a Tim Horton's delivery truck have a hard time turning out of the driveway on State St. It will be interesting to see how well the truck turns with the new roadway geometry.

Could be based on the amount of traffic that a costco will bring compared to a Tim Hortons. I didn't realize they had to fork over some money for it though, interesting.

Naaaahhhhh. Dunkin' Donuts is best! AND you add cream and sugar yourself - not what Tim Hortons has designated.
