Need to replace 800 DVDs? Black Friday to the rescue

By Nathan Bomey

Black Friday offers the perfect solution for Mike Kidd.

The Ypsilanti resident recently lost 800 DVDs and his electronics to burglars who stole his valuables. The glut of sales offers an opportunity to counteract the thieves.

"I'm rebuilding my collection now," Kidd said this morning, clutching 7 seasons of the TV series "Smallville" in the DVD aisle at Best Buy.

Kidd started his day at ABC Warehouse, where he joined the line at 5:30 a.m. He waited until the store opened at 8 to buy a portable DVD player for $40 and a Blu-Ray DVD player for $79. After ABC, he drove to Best Buy.

Thieves stole Kidd's possessions, but he's not letting it destroy his spirits. Asked where he was headed after Best Buy, he thought a second before responding.

"It’s cold out, so I think I’ll go over to Kohl’s and get some earmuffs," he joked.
