Mixed emotions cloud Obama's visit to Holland battery plant groundbreaking

Barack Obama, shown here at his inauguration, visited the groundbreaking of Holland's LG Chem battery plant. While the plant will bring jobs to the area, many are concerned that the government should not be spending so much money on one industry.

Barack Obama was in Holland on Thursday for the groundbreaking of a battery plant that was funded by tax incentives. Although LG Chem is expected to create 400 jobs, many are concerned that the government should not be spending more money, according to the Grand Rapids Press.

The Press article quotes Dick Haworth "who was part of a team of Holland business leaders who courted LG Chem to select Holland as a site for its first advanced battery plant outside Korea. He said he appreciates the federal dollars that helped bring the battery companies to Holland but acknowledges he doesn't think the approach is fair.


'The right way to do it is to create government that encourages all businesses, not just one,' Haworth said."
