Hertz hybrid vehicles available by the hour at EMU
For $8 an hour, Eastern Michigan University students have a ride.
Hertz is offering free membership for its new On-Demand service, which allows members to rent one of two hybrid vehicles for an hourly fee, according to The Eastern Echo.
Members reserve the car online and then use a smart card to access the vehicle during the reserved time period, according to the Echo.
“Everything is done in advance online,” Audri Hileman, a graduate assistant for Campus Life, told the Echo. “On the day of your pickup, you swipe your card on a device on the door and it unlocks. The keys will be inside for you already and the system keeps track of how long you have the car so it can bill your credit card.”

It will be interesting to see if this service is continued. There is a lot of demand for short rental of cars but can it make money?
