Gas station in Saline looks to add drive-through Burger King restaurant

By Lizzy Alfs

The owner of a BP gas station on West Michigan Avenue in Saline looks to add a drive-through Burger King restaurant in an assortment of renovations to the building.

The station, located at 777 W. Michigan Avenue east of Riveroaks Boulevard, is near Mickey’s Dairy Twist and a Subway restaurant. The registered owner of the property is Petro Power Inc.

A preliminary site plan was submitted by Saline Property LLC to the Saline Planning Commission on Aug. 16. The plan requests to remove an existing car wash, relocate gas pumps to the west side of the building, add a Burger King to the east part of the building and build a 430-square-foot addition for two walk-in coolers.

The preliminary site plan will go before planning commission on Sept. 14 for a public hearing and discussion.

The location on West Michigan Avenue has been a gas station and convenience store since the 1980s, according to city documents.

City superintendent Gary Roubal conducted a review on the preliminary site plan application and said that over time, the site has come into disrepair and is in need of maintenance.

“There are debris and the landscape hasn’t been maintained,” he said. “We just made a note on the review that the site needs some ‘TLC’ and they need to keep it looking good.”

There is a nearby Burger King about two miles east of the city of Saline in Pittsfield Township on Michigan Avenue near the corner of Platt Road.

It would seem to me to be more than two miles from the BP Station on W. Mich. Av. to the Burger King on E. Mich. Av.?

Sorry, I see in the article that city superintendent Gary Roubal is the one who has not did his job for the city of Saline. This site has been like this for years and now you are commenting. You have not noticed this stations condition before now or given any citations. Wow !

I have sent e-mails to BP in past about the disrepair and trash at this station and never received a response. After complaining at station about appearance of station with no change. I am many others have refused to go to this station because of appearance of site. Why has the city of saline allowed this eyesore to go on with no response about the condition of this gas station? Who was suppose to be in charge of the terrible condition of this business in the city? Some one who has not done there job ! . Would not OK plan do to previous condition and maintenance of site by owners. Has been a eyesore to the city of Saline for a long time.

You ask, "Who was suppose to be in charge of the terrible condition of this business in the city?". Your first thought was the right answer: patrons. If you don't like it then "refuse to go" there. It's not government's job to pick winners and losers in the private sector.
