Downtown Ann Arbor's Edible Arrangements to relocate following recent fire at neighboring Sheesh restaurant

By Lizzy Alfs

Edible Arrangements, a fresh fruit bouquet franchise in downtown Ann Arbor, is relocating from North Main Street to Washtenaw Avenue after a fire at next-door Sheesh restaurant damaged the retailer’s building.

Owner Michelle Toal said her lease for the space was set to expire less than a week after the fire, and since she hadn’t renewed yet, she decided to relocate to 3386 Washtenaw Ave. on the east side of the city.

“We had a ton of smoke damage and a lot had to be thrown away or taken off site,” she said. “The building was basically empty, and I was already considering relocating before the fire, so I thought this would be a good time to move.”

The Aug. 22 fire started when grease in the Sheesh grill ignited. It displaced residents of apartments and a condominium unit in the building, and significantly damaged Sheesh and Edible Arrangements. The Mythlogic computer business suffered minimal damage from smoke.

Toal said Edible Arrangements is set to open in the new space, located near Arborland Center on Washtenaw Avenue, sometime in November. In the meantime, the business is still taking delivery orders.

Toal said she is happier with her new location, and thinks the Washtenaw Avenue corridor is a better fit for Edible Arrangements.

“I like this a lot better,” she said. “There is plenty of parking and my employees don’t have to walk five blocks. This area is just really busy and we’ll be right by the expressway.”

Sheesh restaurant still has a “Closed” sign in the window of the restaurant at 207 N. Main St. The owner could not be reached for comment regarding the status of the business.

There might be plenty of parking, but driving that stretch of Washtenaw most times of day takes much longer than walking 5 blocks, and probably wastes more fuel than the 50 cents you would need to feed a parking meter while you run in to pick up your order...

I really hope Sheesh can come back they had good food. I had just eaten there one week prior to the fire so at least I got to taste them before they closed up

Her lease was due to expire in less than a week and she hadn't made a decision?

I saw the sign for the "Edible Arrangements" store several stores down from Honeybaked Ham last week.

"I was already considering relocating before the fire" Seems like she was seriously "considering". Hopefully she's close to the Honeybaked Ham store, so she might benefit from a similar customer.
