David Mielke, dean of Eastern Michigan University's College of Business, plans to relinquish the role of dean and return to the faculty in summer 2012, officials said.

Mielke, who became dean in 2004, was generally credited with boosting the College of Business' reputation during a period in which the broader university was battling image problems and various controversies.

He co-created an annual event called Ethos Week, which was described as the first business event designed solely to discuss ethical issues facing companies and professionals.

Mielke, 65, will teach accounting as a business professor after the 2011-12 fiscal year, the university said.

"David has provided exceptional leadership and vision for the College of Business for the last seven years," EMU President Susan Martin said in a statement. "I look forward to working with him in his role as dean during the upcoming year, and we will conduct a national search for his replacement."

Poor Nathan - the EMU grad wrote a simple article and made a factual statment about the times in which the university lives and commenters bash him "Mielke, who became dean in 2004, was generally credited with boosting the College of Business' reputation during a period in which the broader university was battling image problems and various controversies."

What else would you expect? This is Ann Arbor.com isn't it. When they report something totally favorable about Eastern Michigan that will be a very special day.

Dr. Mielke is an outstanding person, and his leadership and administrative abilities are impressive even in a pack of other leaders. I'm so glad he is staying at EMU, even in a diminished role.

Why do you have to mention EMU's "difficulties" during such an article. Why not just say what a great job he has done and be done with it? If it's EMU or Ypsilanti, Ann Arbor.com always has to throw in a negative!

Well, go figure. A2.com throws in superfluous details in a "basic" article such as this, but will omit significant and/or crucial information such as they did in their earlier articles regarding the A2 rapist (description of suspect, etc.). Perhaps they're looking for a new editor? Do they edit?
