Craigslist tests new apartment mapping application on Ann Arbor

By Ben Freed

Ann Arbor joins Los Angeles and the Bay Area as a testing ground for Craiglist’s newest feature according to a report on thenextweb.com. The new application will allow apartment hunters to use a map view to find apartments in specific neighborhoods or areas.

Single apartments show up as Craigslist peace signs. Higher densities show up as colored dots.

The new mapping feature has come amidst some controversy. According to the report, Craigslist has filed multiple lawsuits against PadMapper and other sites using similar technologies and has been the recipient of countersuits in return.

Users can switch between the map view and Craigslist’s more traditional “list” view. Different colored circles show different densities of apartments being offered. In the Washtenaw county, downtown Ann Arbor and areas around Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti showed the highest density of postings.

Fast, smooth, excellent user interface. A serious contribution to the field of national MLS aggregators.
