Cosi on State Street in Ann Arbor appears to have closed its doors
A sign on the door Friday read "Cosi Ann Arbor is closing," and the restaurant was not open.
Cosi corporate officials did not return a call seeking comment Friday. It is unclear whether the Ann Arbor location has closed permanently or for the holiday.
Earlier this month, Fidel Gannouni, a co-owner of La Marsa Mediterranean Cuisine said he and his partners planned to open their fifth Michigan location in the Cosi space at 301 S. State St. by early May. Building owner Ed Davidson would not comment on why Cosi was leaving at the time.
However, Davidson told AnnArbor.com in early December that La Marsa “is going to be a great addition to the street.”
Cosi has five remaining locations in the state — in Rochester Hills, Birmingham, Farmington Hills, Southfield and East Lansing.

Methinks someone out there likes to protest too much about Tios, no matter what the original article is about. Makes me wonder if they are affilliated with BTB... Anyway, it's very simple: if you don't like Tios, don't eat there. Those of us who love it will not miss you a bit!

Let's not hate on Sheesh or the former La Shish. They are/were Michigan businesses, and the new folks are mostly former employees trying to pick up the pieces after the owner of the former La Shish (now a fugitive) fled the country in a hurry. Sheesh on N. Main is the same delicious meal as La Shish minus the financial support for Hezbollah. That's something we can all get behind.

Pssst...nearby Great Wraps is closing shortly too (next to Amer's, across the street from old Shaman Drum/new burger place)

Ugh tios! I understand Tios is an Ann Arbor institution to some, but please, let's not confuse it with Mexican food, or even Tex-Mex.

@Silly Sally: I've lived in Mexico City and traveled in other parts of Mexico, and no, Tios is nothing like what a finer restaurant in Mexico serves. Not even a little bit.

"Why not eat good Mexican food at Tios"? Because I'm pretty sure they don't want you to bring in food from somewhere else. Brilliant. Senor Lopez was the closest thing to a good Mexican place, and they're gone.

@seldon - Have you ever seen what many Mexicans in California or Texas actually eat? Or, even worse, go south to Tijuana. Fried roaches on a tortilla, or greasy beans with lard... Tios is much more like what a finer restaurant in Mexico serves. Good food, inspected by a health department, and safe to eat.

@Silly Sally: Tios doesn't serve actual Mexican food, so much as Americanized Mexican-inspired food. Whether it's good is a matter of opinion, but Mexican it isn't.

"...a new place that serves mediocre Mexican food." Why not eat good Mexican food at Tios or Sabor Latino Restaurant?

@Judith "Earlier this month, Fidel Gannouni, a co-owner of La Marsa Mediterranean Cuisine said he and his partners planned to open their fifth Michigan location in the Cosi space at 301 S. State St" This is the reference he is making to the La Shish clone. Though I always love those who say we don't need another such and such style business, yet the businesses seem to grow. A 24/7 place like 7/11 is PERFECT for State Street. Most independent C-Store operators do not want to be open all night, but on State Street there are 1000's of students who can use it regularly. I guess we should be disgusted if another burger joint, Mongolian BBQ-type joint, another store that sells UM apparel, another movie theater, another breakfast place, another apartment complex, etc open. I guess we should only allow completely different new types of businesses to open their doors. I know if I am looking for something I hate to have options on where to get it.

Actually the 7-11 went in next to Nickels Arcade. It's rather plain & unattractive. Not sure what the "La Shish" clone reference is to though...

It's a CVS, not a 7-Eleven.

I think a 7 Eleven is planned where Ritz used to be.

@glacialerratic: I don't recall a 7-Eleven, burger joint or La Sheesh clone on South University... Please enlighten me.

Great--a new 7-Eleven, a burger joint, and another clone of La Sheesh. State Street's going the way of South University.

Aw sad, I love Cosi. Best salad and bread anywhere.
