The Chelsea Alehouse Brewery opened Thursday in Chelsea's Clocktower complex, Chelsea Patch reported.

Chelsea Alehouse is the city's only microbrewery, and its opening comes after years of research and planning.

Owner Chris Martinson was a home brewer for more than a decade before launching the venture with his wife Aubrey.

Martinson will be serving, and eventually bottling, up to 10 different ales on tap that will be seasonally rotated. The brewpub also will serve sandwiches, soups and appetizers.

The brewery is at 420 N. Main, Suite 100. See its website http://www.chelseaalehouse.com/ for hours and additional information.

Great news, but "Chelsea Alehouse is the city's first microbrewery" is wrong. As Janet Miller wrote in an an arbor.com article last month, The Real Ale company opened in the Clocktower in 1982. It was one of the first microbreweries in the country, but it didn't last long.

I am a proud supporter of the Alehouse and have already visited several times, which is easy because I live within walking distance! I look forward to all the pints to come. Thanks for everything, Chris. :) ~Sarah

The first night the brewery was open (December 21) I was VERY glad I lived within "stumbling distance."

That's nothing - my friend lives within crawling distance!
