Cheap eats: Ann Arbor-area Jimmy John's offering $1 sandwiches today

Don’t be surprised to find out-the-door lines at local Jimmy John’s sandwich shops today.

A line of more than 100 people deep stretched down Ann Street in Ann Arbor outside of Jimmy John's for its customer appreciation day in 2009.

The company, which has six locations in Ann Arbor and one in Ypsilanti, is offering $1 sandwiches from 11 to 3 p.m. at its local stores for “Ann Arbor-area customer appreciation day.”

Sandwiches numbered 1 through 6 on the menu will be $1, with a limit of one sandwich per customer. The deal does not apply to delivery orders.

The company hosts the appreciation event in its major markets across the country.

The first Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwich Shop was founded in 1983 in Illinois. Since its inception, the company has grown to more than 1,400 locations in 39 states.

@smokeblwr I waited for about 8 minutes for a sub. They had about 12 workers on the line busting out subs. Soooooo worth it! Thanks Jimmy Johns!

I went and picked one up for my boyfriend. Long line but they were fast. Someone got in a car accident on Washtenaw trying to get in.

If you're waiting an hour, there must be 200 people in line in front of you. They move FAST in every location I've seen. Sometimes my sub is ready before I've even turned the corner to the pickup area.
